I think you really need at least 5 runs of 15 miles or more and that's about it. Interval training will get you a faster time but not needed to complete the marathon. That and eat lots of rotten bananas....

Ok, don't do that last part. :)The un-Zen Runnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09275962596668929099noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2018075940683560452.post-78736685151045103352010-09-01T12:47:42.843-05:002010-09-01T12:47:42.843-05:00great job on the 14!great job on the 14!Triciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16665644808858115598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2018075940683560452.post-36344280894127366572010-09-01T09:14:46.981-05:002010-09-01T09:14:46.981-05:00I usually do at least 2 - 22 milers during maratho...I usually do at least 2 - 22 milers during marathon training but I know most stop at 20. I don't think a 22 mile run is necessary but to each their own. I always think it's crazy to do another marathon in the middle of each of my trainings. yet I keep on signing up!Jamiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06757049962850570389noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2018075940683560452.post-31416493424944266762010-08-31T21:48:15.434-05:002010-08-31T21:48:15.434-05:00For what its worth:

I don't think it really makes a huge difference since most of what I've read suggests you don't really gain anything past 18-20. That said, mentally I think its nice to get over the 20 mile point at least once, even if physically it doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of difference.

I'm also not a big fan of speedwork, especially while marathon training. But 1600s probably make the most sense, particularly if you combine them with a medium long day to begin with. (I'm more apt to do say...a 6-7 progression in the middle of a 13 miler than a straight out session on the track. Or I'll strategically schedule a 5k. But I'm also lazy.) :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2018075940683560452.post-26507576321236797232010-08-31T21:06:14.445-05:002010-08-31T21:06:14.445-05:00That is a good, consistent run! I worry too about not running as fast or pushing myself as hard as I did a year ago.

I don't have any good insights into marathon training with speedwork. I didn't do a 22-mile run, but the managers at the running store told me not to do it and risk injury.Micahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15604796212114746531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2018075940683560452.post-16988090247969790542010-08-31T20:43:36.571-05:002010-08-31T20:43:36.571-05:00As far as speedwork goes, I say mix it up. The intervals shorten as race day approaches.Teamarciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02234702339055377426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2018075940683560452.post-39281538489680523492010-08-31T19:28:07.275-05:002010-08-31T19:28:07.275-05:00awesome running ...
