Skedaddle + Fargo Half Marathon Training Week 2

Monday Planned: 7 GA Miles, strides and hill repeats
Monday Actual: It really started to snow in the afternoon and we got at least a couple of inches on top of what we already had with ice. WHEE!! But the temps were above zero so count me in. I ended up at 6 miles before my legs felt like they were going to fall off because they were so heavy from plodding through.

Tuesday Planned: Rest
Tuesday Actual: Rest

Wednesday Planned: 4 GA Miles
Wednesday Actual: 4.12 GA miles with the group run. So slow, uff da!

Thursday Planned: 8 Mile with LT portions
Thursday Actual: I started feeling a cold or something coming on Wednesday afternoon, and after the group run sucked, I opted to sleep in and not run Thursday (even though the conditions were perfection, ugh). I did go to POWER.

Friday Planned: Recovery 4 Miles
Friday Actual: Rest day. -20 in the morning before work? No thank you.

Saturday Planned: Long Run 12 Miles
Saturday Actual: 12 mile long run with Melissa after teaching yoga at WoodGrain. The trail conditions were pretty decent, but I did slip and slide enough to make my right hip flexor pretty cranky by the last 3 miles. The temperatures were so comfortable with a handful of positive degrees!!

Sunday Planned: Rest
Sunday Actual: Recovery run 6.81 miles through a lot of snow.

Planned miles: 35 miles
Actual miles: 28.94 miles

Skedaddle + Fargo Half Marathon Training Week 1

Monday Planned: GA 8 Miles
Monday Actual: Rest. It was so frigid that I opted for a rest day and moved the run to Tuesday.

Tuesday Planned: Rest
Tuesday Actual: GA 7.51 Miles. I tried really hard for 8 miles but got scary cold and had to quit a little early. I ended up with bruising on my stomach it was so chilly. Yikes. Windchill was -14. Brr.

Wednesday Planned: LT 7 Miles with tempo portions by time
Wednesday Actual: 7.6 miles with LT portions. I accidentally had it in my head that I was supposed to do 8 miles, so I got really messed up with the turn around. It was super slick and snowy, so we opted to run run by effort instead of pace.

Thursday Planned: POWER
Thursday Actual: POWER

Friday Planned: Recovery 4 miles with strides
Friday Actual: Rest. I was considering going to a gym for a treadmill shake out run, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. So sore from POWER still.

Saturday Planned: Long Run 10 Miles
Saturday Actual: Long run 10 miles with Melissa. It was snowy and slick, so our pace was nice and easy.

Sunday Planned: Recovery 3 Miles
Sunday Actual: Since I skipped Friday's recovery miles, I set out for as many recovery miles as my legs felt comfortable with. I ended up with 6.55 miles through the snow!

Dallas Training Week 5

Monday PlannedGA+Speed 8 miles, 2 sets 4x150 strides
Monday Actual
GA+Speed 8 miles, zero strides. It was so cold and windy that the thought of doing strides after and then standing for 30 seconds in between made me freeze to death. Brrrrr.

Tuesday Planned: Rest
Tuesday Actual: Rest

Wednesday Planned Recovery+speed 3 miles w 4x100
Wednesday Actual: 3 recovery miles with 4x100 strides at the group run. I'm glad I asked a running buddy to join me (as all of the regulars were out of town for the holiday). We had quite the creeper follow us for awhile. Yikes.

Thursday Planned Banquet 10k, 10 miles total
Thursday Actual: The night before this race I completely talked myself out of doing it. There was a chance of freezing rain, and I realized that a charity race that raised money for hungry people was not the race to try to run a really fast 10k. Derp. Instead I slept it with plans to run 10 miles mid-morning, but then I slept in way too late. oops. family snuggles >>running

Friday Planned: Recovery 3 Miles
Friday Actual: I skipped the coffee run (aka running buddy Kristin's birthday run :'( ) due to an unhappy stomach from thanksgiving. I was so bummed.

Saturday Planned: Long Run 13.1 miles
Saturday Actual: Long run 13.1 miles with a fast finish. It was such a beautiful day for a long run, it felt like night and day from last week's run!

Sunday Planned: Recovery 4 Miles
Sunday Actual: Rest. I woke up and it was freezing. I checked the weather for the warmest part of the day, and it didn't EXIST. Only freezing. I couldn't do it.

Dallas Training Week 3

Monday Planned: Endurance 10 miles
Monday Actual: 10 miles, 3.24 miles, what's the difference? It was very clear that my body still wasn't ready to tackle training fully. I did a small loop around town and called it quits.

Tuesday Planned: Rest
Tuesday Actual: I ran to vote! Just a short 2 ish mile run.

Wednesday Planned Recovery 4 miles
Wednesday Actual

Thursday Planned VO2 Max 9 miles 5x1k @ 5k
Thursday Actual: Still not well enough to run, especially hard. I skipped POWER for sleep and when I tried to go after work, the roads were so bad from the snow that I wasn't able to. This was also my final decision day regarding the marathon vs the half. Half it is!

Friday Planned
Recovery 3 miles
Friday Actual: I must've turned off my alarm because I woke up to a text from Kristin asking if I was planning to come to the run, 2.5 hours after she sent it.

Saturday Planned18 Mile Long run 12 mile long run
Saturday Actual: 12 mile long run. The windchill was 1 degree. It was so cold and windy and at times I thought my face and fingers were going to fall off. But then when the wind was at our backs, the miles flew by!

And then we bRUNched!

Garry Bjorklund Half Recovery Week Training

Monday: Rest + foam rolling. I felt like I could run, but I opted for an extra day of rest and a little more foam rolling.

Tuesday: 4.24 miles with Toni. Kept it nice and easy.

Wednesday: I had every intention to run 4 miles with the group run, but it was raining cats and dogs and had been all day, with flash flooding. I opted to chat with runners about their Grandma's experience while foam rolling before yoga class.

Thursday: 5 recovery miles. Toni and I ran 5 miles after work. With less than a half mile left, I stepped weird and felt a yucky sensation up the back of my right knee. It dissipated after a few strides so I finished the run.

Friday: 4 recovery miles. Friday morning Toni and I met up for the coffee run and got in 4 miles. My knee felt okay during the run but after the run during coffee it started to feel really stiff and wonky.

Saturday: I had searched out local running groups to run a long run on Saturday. After driving to Des Moines Friday after our run, and then sitting in the bleachers for 7 hours, my knee was so stiff and felt like I had a ton of pressure under the knee cap. I iced it after the meet, and again after dinner.

Sunday: Still a lot of pressure under my knee cap, so I iced it before the meet. It was starting to feel better, but than I had to drive home. Grumble grumble.

Total miles: 13.38 miles

Tuesday Planned:
 Recovery 4 Miles
Tuesday Actual: Rest, foam rolling and core.

Wednesday Planned 9 miles with 2x1200, 2x1000, 2x800
Wednesday Actual: 60 minute POWER session in the morning, and I was off at noon so I attempted my speed work at the track. Woof. It was so hot and humid, but I was bound and determined to do it. Until I wasn't. It was so hot, and so humid (oh did I already say that??) and there were waves of heat coming off from the black track making the breathing stifling. I did the first two 1200s, and then just had to leave. I was cooking, and burning, and I was a mess. Uff da.

Thursday Planned
 Rest
Thursday Actual
Rest. I considered finishing my workout from Wednesday, but the weather was identical and I wanted to spend some time with Kyle before he went out of town. Also, I was really sick or running by myself. Blah.

Friday Planned: Recovery 3
Friday Actual: I had plans to meet up with Jessica for the coffee run, but woke up to lightning so I went back to bed.

Saturday Planned: Endurance 10 miles
Saturday Actual: 10 mile long run. I woke up to another round of storms, and had to teach yoga mid-morning, so that left 12:30pm as the time to run long. In 80 degrees and a million percent humidity. But I did it! And survived! And check out how salty my hat is. Barf.

Wednesday Planned GA 7 Miles
Wednesday Actual: GA 8 miles, 4 miles before yoga and 4 after.

Thursday Planned
 10 miles, 5 @ LT
Thursday Actual: I opted to swap the 10 miles with workout for the 10 mile long run since Saturday will be so much nicer. 10 degrees in 93 degrees made me feel like a rock star.

Friday Planned: Recovery 3 Miles
Friday Actual: 3 Miles of recovery. I waited until it was way too hot, and after Thursday night's run, I was just pooped/wiped. I ended up walk/running a lot the second half of the run.

Saturday PlannedEndurance 10 Miles
Saturday Actual
During work on Friday, I tweaked my knee moving some furniture and spent the rest of the day limping horribly. It felt better Saturday but I opted to take a rest day. Spent a lot of time icing, ibuprofen, and foam rolling. I wanted to do my long run on Sunday, but Toni was my voice of reason and required me to rest another day. Probably smart with grandma's half just two weeks away!

Sunday Planned: Rest
Sunday Actual: Rest, more ice, foam rolling.

Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon Training Week 1

Monday Planned: GA 8 miles
Monday Actual: I woke up to run Monday morning with the most ferocious headache. I took some ibuprofen and snuggled the pug, expecting it to be gone in 20-30 minutes. It continued for 3 days. Needless to say I went back to bed until I had to go to work, and didn't get the run in.

Tuesday Planned:
 Rest
Tuesday Actual
VO2 Max 10 miles, 2 sets of 2x1200, 1x800@ 3k-5k--modified. We made it through about 7 miles of the day, the first set of 2x1200 & 1x800 and the first 1200 of the second set before my calve started to really bother me. I jogged it out, stretched it out, and during a recovery jog stretch it felt like someone shot me in the leg with an arrow so I opted to cut the run short. Some foam rolling after found the culprit--knots on knots in my calves. Uff da.

Wednesday Planned VO2 Max 10 miles, 2 sets of 2x1200, 1x800@ 3k-5k
Wednesday Actual: 4 miles recovery with the group run at 605.

Thursday Planned
 Rest
Thursday Actual: We had planned to do 5 miles in the morning to make up for a bit of the missed miles on Tuesday, but when my alarm went off at 5:30am, so did a major thunderstorm outside. Harumph. Since I ran after work instead, I cut it down to 4 miles knowing I needed to do my long run in 10 short hours.

Friday Planned: Recovery 4 Miles
Friday Actual
Endurance 12 miles in all the heat and humidity. I had to wring out my ponytail before going to Starbucks after because I was dripping so badly. Gross.

Saturday Planned: Endurance 12 miles
Saturday Actual: Rest

Sunday Planned: Rest
Sunday Actual: 4 ish miles on gravel recovery run around the lake. Hot and windy!
