Meal Prep Fun

Last spring, I got the great idea that Toni and I should meal prep and swap food during marathon training. And then she moved away and that didn't happen. A few weeks ago, I was talking to my running buddy Maren about fueling during training, and I mentioned what I had hoped to do with Toni, and she was totally on board!

Her significant other travels a lot and Kyle refuses to eat any of my delicious but healthy, typically meat-free meals, so it worked out perfectly. So far we're on week two. And it's going great! We check in on Saturday or Sunday with what we're thinking of making for the week, 2-3 meals, and then I've been off to the store to shop and Sundays are for meal prep! We've been making our way through Run Fast East Slow and Run Fast Cook Fast Eat Slow.

Week 1 we swapped ~2 servings of two lunches and two breakfasts. I made a goat cheese broccoli soup, the Thai quinoa salad, and blueberry banana pancakes. Maren made the southwest salad, a delicious mushroom risotto, and the best little egg frittatas. Yum.

This week, I made a superhuman soup with curry and coconut milk and veggies. My house smells so good. I also made the edamame orange kale salad and attempted to recreate the mini egg frittatas that Maren made last week.

Maren made a stew and a chicken veggie rice bowl. I'm so excited for all the delicious food I have to eat this week!!

2016 Mileage

A little over a month ago, I was logging my mileage and I happened to glance at my annual mileage for 2016. I was shocked when it showed 400 miles for the year. I didn't really start running this year until April/May, so I didn't realize I had that many miles. I was having a good month of running in September and October, so I decided I would try to hit 700 miles for the year.

Eeps.

I was just shy of 700 miles in 2013, and just over 700 miles in 2014. In 2015, I ran less than 200. Miles. Total. For the year. Whoa.

I sent a text to my new running buddy in town and asked if she'd be willing to keep me going during November and December after my October half to help me get in the mileage. I planned to take the week after my race off, which left me with 190 miles to run in 8 weeks. I recovered a little better than I expected, so I was able to get in about 10 miles, so now it's on. 180 miles in the next 8 weeks.

Totally doable, right?!

The Lottery Results Are In......

After much funfare on Wednesday morning/afternoon, I was left not knowing whether I was IN for NYC marathon or not.  What I gathered from the at replies to @INGNYmarathon, there was some sort of major failure with the announcing, as we were to "check back later" yet the NYC marathon page said our profile logins would be down until Thursday at 10a.m.  Hmm... ok, so much for all that hoopla I guess!

I started to see that people were "finding out" via credit card charges so I logged on to mine a few times to see if there had been a charge.  Nada.  Interesting enough a few times the Capital One site stalled out on me.  I had to laugh thinking that hundreds of thousands of NYC marathon lotto peeps were probably doing the same thing.  (if not, whatever, just let me have my laughter!)

Later in the afternoon I got an email from Tom saying HE WAS IN! And that the login pages were back up and functioning.  I logged in, and wasn't surprised to see this:

Not sure what I expected the lottery process to be like, but with all of the hype surrounding the announcement I got pumped, and then royally bummed, without even knowing if I was in or not.  I'm sure the huge amounts of lotto entrants and then the number of people that flooded the site didn't help, but I feel like they should have a good guage on that based on previous years, right?  Hmm..  Anyway, by the time I found out I wasn't in.  I didn't really care anymore.  Hohum.

I emailed Jenn and Megan, that this was a dark sign for our Nike Women's Marathon selection that was to occur "sometime the end of the month."  Way to keep it vague Nike.

Imagine my surprise when I woke up to several texts from Megan to "OPEN YOUR EMAIL!  WE'RE IN!!"

HOLY CRAP!  That was the kind of lotto selection excitement I was looking for!  Too funny that they'd come within ~15 hours of each other.

I swear I didn't even ask that they do the graphics in green and gold... but I like it.  :D  So I'll be heading out west for the fall.  I can't wait for a re-do of Philly with two of my favorite girls in the world.  If I could've only gotten in to one of these races, things worked out just the way I wanted.  :)

Now that I have some answers about these two races, I'm left to decide the rest of my fall race schedule.  Suggestions?  Couches for me to come stay on??
