Scarves for PRs

Six to seven years ago, I was racing a lot and running well, and I started crocheting and selling scarves to help fund my racing habit. I had so much fun creating custom scarves for friends, family and co-workers, but then I needed a b-r-e-a-k.

Whenever the weather turns nippy, I get the itch to snuggle under a blanket, make a mug of tea, and crochet my little heart out. This winter I'm reviving my Scarves for PRs.

If you're interested in buying one for yourself or a loved one let me know!  I'm obsessed with the infinity scarf (shown here) but can also do a traditional scarf as well.  Scarves are $30.  Shipping and handling is $3 in the U.S.  All scarves are custom made and there a ton of great color options.  Check out some of the selection here.  Email me at jerbearshares [at] gmail [dot] com if you want to place an order or if you have any additional questions. If your order now, I should be able to get you your scarf by Christmas if you want to give it as a gift!

Weekly Wishlist + Scarves for PRs

Last night I knocked out some mile repeats for the first time in a long time.  I seriously can't remember the last time I did mile repeats, and I'm too lazy to check my running log for proof.  So just go with it.  I usually loathe mile repeats aka the devil's workout, which probably means that they're the best training run for me, because they suckkkkkkkkkkkk.

Anywho.  I had 3x1600m repeats at 7:41 pace and I was a little concerned as to how my legs would hold up.  I did a "test run"  (bahahahah punny) with the slower tempo run, but had yet to run FAST (for me) since the half.  I was pretty surprised/impressed!

7:34
7:35
7:36

I did a mile warm up and half mile jogs in between the repeats, and a mile cool down.  It's always nice to "run" your workout instead of having it run you, ya know?  And I was so stoked about how well the run went and was bragging to KK about it, the enthusiasm must've wore off, because I think he agreed to accompany me on part of my run tonight.  Finger's crossed he wasn't just talking in his sleep.  :/  (likely, sadly).

And now on to the fun stuff.  The weekly wishlist:
I need this like I need to breathe.
Often?  Heavily?  I don't even know what that means, but yeah.

I'm mildly (grave understatement) obsessed with Yoda. This is awesome.

These are just too cute.  I love them stacked like this too.

This is a kid's scarf, but I don't imagine my neck is much bigger than it was at 14, so I think that's ok, right?  Polka dot love.

This matches my bedroom.... I want it in a print.  So pretty.
Clearly I'm on a scarf kick.

Speaking of scarves, if you're new around these parts, I crochet super soft infinity scarves to help fund my running/racing addiction.  I started last fall, and it was a great way to supplement some crazy race fees and travel costs.  Plus I think the scarves are super pretty, and can't justify making myself one in every color, so this is the enxt best thing.  I don't have nearly as much time to devote to crocheting as I did last fall, but wanted to let you know that I am taking some orders, and it would be best to get your order in early as it's first come first served.

The scarves are $30, and the shipping and handling in the U.S. is $3.  There are a ton of colors to choose from, and each scarf is custom crocheted.  I'm also working on a super pretty cowl, so stay tuned for that unveiling.  Take a look here for some completed scarves and color options.  If you're interested, leave a note in the comments with an email to reach you a, or shoot me at email at jerbearshares [at] gmail [dot] com

Houston Bound!

Hi kiddos!  I'm off to Texas to visit my love Jenn!  Many shenanigans will likely be had, and I'll miss all your [virtual] faces.

In honor of me leaving the bitter cold behind, I'm having a scarf sale!  It's seriously bitterly cold here, so I'll be leaving my comfy scarves at home, but I'm sure I'll want to crochet my little heart out when I return home.  $30 infinity scarves are now on sale for $25 (+$3 s+h).  Email me at jerbearshares [at] gmail [dot] com with your color selection (be aware that not all colors are available here, so maybe give a few colors you'd like!)

A tout a leure!  (my favorite french phrase since "toot" is technically in it!)

Black Friday: Scarves for PRs

As I've posted previously, I am hand crocheting infinity scarves to help fund my racing addiction.  The scarves are normally $30 + $3 shipping and handling.  From November 25th to November 28th I will be running a sale.  My goodness does the Jerbear love a good sale.  ;)  If you purchase a scarf during this time, you can get a second scarf for $10 off.  The scarves are so cute that you can justify buying yourself two (I seriously have at least 6 or 7), but they also make great Christmas gifts!  There are a lot of colors to select from.

And to thank those of you who have already purchased a scarf, you can get a second scarf for the $10 off deal as well!  Only because I'm super duper thankful that you've helped out my running already yo. ;)

Send me an email jerbearshares [at] gmail [dot] com if you want more information or to discuss your super cute new scarf!

Mile Repeat + Blog Searches

I was supposed to do my mile repeats on Tuesday but after changing in to my running clothes, I realized I was exhausted (still attempting to fight off this cold or whatever it may be).  I quickly changed in to my sweats and called it a night.

Wednesday after getting my nails did (I look like a girly girl! whaaaaaaa?) I headed to the gym for my mile repeats, since it was dark, and I knew I'd get yelled at if I ran outside.  :)  I was supposed to do a mile warm up, then 3 x 1600 m. @ 7:38 pace with 800 m. jogs in between.  I was a bit frightened.....as I always am by mile repeats.  I did take a minute to look through my running log to see that I had survived similar mile repeats (and even faster ones!) to build my confidence up.  Uh... this was genius btw.

And the domination continues!  Bahah.  Mile repeats--7:28, 7:29, 7:29.

In super creepy news, while banging out my mile repeats at the gym, I happened to notice an older gentleman on an elliptical behind and to the left of me looking my way.  I know this because those giant windows in the gym.... uh they're uber reflective at night.  At one point, I noticed he had taken out his cell phone, outstretched his arm, and appeared to take a photo of me!  Now I hope I am wrong, because I cannot understand why in the world someone would take a photo of me sweating my butt off at the gym.  Perhaps he was super duper impressed with the amount of swass (sweaty+ass) I was rockin' for a chicky, but either way, totally creepy.

So I've compiled a list of pretty awesome searches that people have used to find my blog.  Enjoy:
  • bicycle lean over cleavage
  • uff da running/yoga clothing
  • pooped my running shorts
    • Uh....huh?
  • jeri sparkles
    • Moonbeams also shoot out of my bum FYI.
  • wet t-shirt contests in california april 2011
    • You were probably disappointed....sorry.
  • 10 mile race strategy
    • Run slow for 9 miles.  Sprint remaining mile.  Look horrendous in race photos. Done.
Also wanted to share my newest favorite scarf that's on it's way to New York.  The color is amaaaaaazing, and I'll probably have to crochet myself one now.  :p  If you're interested in an infinity scarf they are $33 dollars ($30 scarf + $3 shipping and handling).  Let me know if you want one!!  jerbearshares [at] gmail [dot] com.

So Long Sweet Summer

So long sweet summer.  I stumbled upon you and gratefully basked in your rays.
So long sweet summer.  I fell into you now you're gracefully falling away.
Hey thanks, thanks for that summer.
It's cold where you're going, I hope that your hearts always warm.
--Dashboard Confessionals

This is one of my favorite Dashboard songs, and I listen to it on the "last day of summer" every year.  I'm currently listening to it on repeat.  Because I'm cool like that.  Since my summer is quickly winding down, I thought I'd do a quick recap of some awesome times.

Today I set out for my last "tough" run before the half on Sunday.  6 miles with 4 at tempo pace (7:54-8:15).  I was lazy and didn't head out until lunch time, but it was still only in the mid-70s.  When I was sopping wet a half mile in to the run, I realized that I failed to check the humidity.  It's amazing that a few nice days of weather can lead you to be completely oblivious about weather.  :p

The first tempo mile felt effortless, as did the second.  Mile 3 was a bit of a struggle, and four I was just ready to be done.  While running I was trying to do math to figure out my pacing for Sundays race.  Since I suck at math while working out, it totally takes my mind off of running because I have to double and triple check my work.  :)

I did 6 miles in 52:10 for a pace of 8:42.  Average tempo pace 8:08.
1. 9:31
2. 7:58
3. 8:03
4. 8:20
5. 8:14
6. 10:01

I've been toying with the idea of getting a second job to help fund my running and racing habit.  I love my job, but unfortunately working in the non-profit industry, Jerbear isn't exactly bringing home the bacon.  And after my car pooped out on me a year before I had planned (ie:  budgetted for...uh ya... credit counselor), I was left with a lot less (read:  almost no) money to throw at races.  Friday afternoon I had a stroke of genius when I realized it was perfect scarf crocheting season.  When a few of my co-workers mentioned they might be interested in buying some homemade scarfs from me, lightbulbs came on!  And thus, Scarves for PRs was born.

If you're interested in buying one for yourself or a loved one let me know!  I'm obsessed with the infinity scarf (shown above) but can also do a traditional scarf as well.  Scarves are $30 and that doesn't include shipping and handling if applicable.  Email me at jerbearshares [at] gmail [dot] com if you want to place an order.
